History

Welcome to James Ackerman Stadium and Camarillo Scorpion Football. Since that first home football game in 1957 against Santa Clara and the final game last year against Westlake, the surrounding community has always supported our young athletes. Many city leaders and business owners throughout Ventura County are graduates of ACHS. James Ackerman was the first principal at Camarillo and his dream was to create a school of scholars and champions.

Our principal Glenn Lipman has established a new sense of pride in the Blue and Silver not only in our sports teams but academically as well. We are proud of the great award of “School of Character for 2007-08” given by athletic directors and coaches from Calabasas to Paso Robles. A great honor for a great school and staff carrying on the traditions of thousands of Camarillo residents who have walked the halls on Mission Oaks Blvd.

2008 continues the great traditions of Camarillo football led by Coach Riedmiller’s 6th team as head coach. Emphasis on academics, dedication, good sportsmanship and a strong work ethic are key components built into Scorpion football. Parents, students, staff and alumni take pride in the many traditions that have been established since 1957 and have played a key role in the success of the program.

When Don Adolfo Camarillo donated the 50 acres on a hill next to his ranch to the OUHSD, the city of Camarillo had about 3,000 residents. Now with over 60,000 citizens Camarillo High has become a symbol of pride for the entire city. In 1956 when the school opened its doors 300 students roamed the halls for the first time. Eucalyptus and Walnut groves surrounded the campus. Today Camarillo is known throughout Southern California as a great place to live and ACHS represents our town well with its historical heritage of agriculture, academic and athletic excellence. We look forward to another exciting year for the Blue and Silver as they pursue another Pacific View League Chamipionship!
