Tonight’s game between Camarillo and Moorpark in the CIF-SS Northern Division quarterfinals may seem a bit familiar to some. Or in the famous words of Yogi Berra, “It’s like déjà vu all over again.” It will be the fifth time in the last ten years that the two teams have faced off in the playoffs. The 10-1 Scorpions hope this year’s outstanding offense is the key to victory over the 10-1 Musketeers. To read what both teams and their coaches have to say about tonight’s game, read the Ventura County Star article “Two colliding forces.” Tonight’s game is at 7:00 p.m. at Moorpark High School.

The seedings for the CIF playoffs were released on Sunday and Camarillo will play the Arroyo Grande Eagles (7-3) in the first round at Camarillo High School. Game time is 7 pm on Friday the 20th. Arroyo Grande started the season 7-1 before losing its last two games to conference foes Righetti and Atascadero. There were no common opponents between the two teams. Camarillo is seeded 5th in the playoffs and Arroyo Grande 12th. As an interesting side note, Arroyo Grande was the first ever playoff opponent for Camarillo when it first made the playoffs in 1961. Camarillo’s all time record against Arroyo Grande is 4-4-1.

Our Cam High Scorpions will have the home field advantage tonight when they take on the Rio Mesa Spartans. Even though the Scorpions have already clinched the Pacific View League championship, they’re still focusing all of their attention on tonight’s game. As Head Coach Dennis Riedmiller says in today’s edition of the Camarillo Acorn, “It’s nice to win a league championship, but it means absolutely nothing if we don’t take care of business against Rio Mesa.” And senior defensive end Tre Boswell sums it up quite well from the players’ perspective: “Football’s fun. But if you don’t win, it’s not fun.” To read the entire article, just click on “Spartans fighting for playoff lives against Camarillo.”
